Summary

Two people make a wager on who can find love first, not realizing what they should be betting on is each other, in this new romantic comedy by Lynn Painter, author of Mr。 Wrong Number。

Hallie Piper is turning over a new leaf。 After belly-crawling out of a hotel room (hello, rock bottom), she decides it's time to become a full-on adult。 She gets a new apartment, a new haircut, and a new wardrobe, but when she logs onto the dating app that she has determined will find her new love, she sees none other than Jack, the guy whose room she snuck out of。

After the joint agreement that they are absolutely not interested in each other, Jack and Hallie become partners in their respective searches for The One。 They text each other about their dates, often scheduling them at the same restaurant so that if things don't go well, the two of them can get tacos afterward。

Spoiler: they get a lot of tacos together。

Discouraged by the lack of prospects, Jack and Hallie make a wager to see who can find true love first, but when they agree to be fake dates for a weekend wedding, all bets are off。 As they pretend to be a couple, lines become blurred and they each struggle to remember why the other was a bad idea to begin with。

Lynn Painter did it again with the banter。 Predictable story, but she always keeps out the cheese factor。 I love listening to the audible books。 Lynn is also a local author near me, so I like that her stories take place in Omaha。

I loved Jack & Hallie's hilarious banter with each other。 They would definitely make it into my top 5 favorite book couples。 I'm a huge fan of the fake dating trope, but The Love Wager has a different twist on it because the book starts with a one-night stand。 I'm usually not a fan of that happening in the beginning of a romcom, but this one worked for me because of their friendship and the way Jack and Hallie could laugh about their first meet。 I enjoyed reading Jack and Hallie as friends knowi I loved Jack & Hallie's hilarious banter with each other。 They would definitely make it into my top 5 favorite book couples。 I'm a huge fan of the fake dating trope, but The Love Wager has a different twist on it because the book starts with a one-night stand。 I'm usually not a fan of that happening in the beginning of a romcom, but this one worked for me because of their friendship and the way Jack and Hallie could laugh about their first meet。 I enjoyed reading Jack and Hallie as friends knowing where the book would lead。 When the fake dating starts, Lynn Painter does an amazing job of heating up the tension between them。 I loved their tender moments when they were pretending but yet both fully enjoying the whispers and sweet kisses。 Thanks to @PRHAudio, I listened to the audiobook and the narrators were excellent, doing a great job of portraying the flirting, the humor, and the intensity of their fake dating weekend。 I really enjoyed the dual POV and I liked the way their voices popped up in each other's chapters。 Once I started the book, I quickly ordered a physical copy because I knew I needed a copy of this pretty cover for my shelf。 Whether it's a YA or a contemporary romance, I'll read any book Lynn Painter publishes。 。。。more

Lynn Painter writes banter like no one else。 Please always write books with texts and sarcasm and one liners that make me laugh out loud while reading。 I binged this book late at night while waiting for the washing machine to get done and I just kept doing the laundry。 Way late into the night。 It had all the best tropes。 It was super low angst with no secrets and conflict that actually made some sense。 I adored the friendship between Hallie and Jack and could not stop reading as they found love Lynn Painter writes banter like no one else。 Please always write books with texts and sarcasm and one liners that make me laugh out loud while reading。 I binged this book late at night while waiting for the washing machine to get done and I just kept doing the laundry。 Way late into the night。 It had all the best tropes。 It was super low angst with no secrets and conflict that actually made some sense。 I adored the friendship between Hallie and Jack and could not stop reading as they found love with each other。 。。。more

3。5 - binge & swoon worthy in typical Lynn Painter fashion。 Not as good as the first one。 I never thought I’d have this complaint but the banter was a bit much for me & some of the references went right over my head (except the New Girl ones) 😎

The end kinda ruined it for me。 Hallie is a child。

Lynn Painter never disappoints! The Love Wager was such a fun read that I gobbled it up in two sittings。 Hallie and Jack are hilarious together and they are both clueless for so much of the book that it just made it that much more fun。 Painter writes the best banter and her characters are flawed and fully human in the best ways - they make dumb mistakes and adopt cats (!) and  do things I find myself thinking I absolutely would have done when I was younger。 I find myself laughing out loud so oft Lynn Painter never disappoints! The Love Wager 🎰♥️I SQUEALED when I got this ARC of Lynn Painters new book。 After LOVING “Better than the Movies,” I couldn’t wait to read her adult romance。 Dual POV of Hallie & Jack who bet on who can find their one true love first。 One night stand, friends to lovers, fake dating, forced proximity。Lynn’s writing is so digestible, if I had the time I would have been able to finish this in one sitting。 I love her pop culture, movie and music references。 Her characters are vibrant and quirky。 I r The Love Wager 🎰♥️I SQUEALED when I got this ARC of Lynn Painters new book。 After LOVING “Better than the Movies,” I couldn’t wait to read her adult romance。 Dual POV of Hallie & Jack who bet on who can find their one true love first。 One night stand, friends to lovers, fake dating, forced proximity。Lynn’s writing is so digestible, if I had the time I would have been able to finish this in one sitting。 I love her pop culture, movie and music references。 Her characters are vibrant and quirky。 I really love her as an author。My hiccup with this book is that it mirrors “Better than the Movies。” The main characters were alarmingly alike。 Something I’m struggling to identify just didn’t click for me in this one, I didn’t feel invested。 Ty for the advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review! 。。。more
